Places in Spain

Travel 2 weeks between Madrid, Granada and Costa Del Sol in Oct. Any must sees/dos/suggestions?

I am planning to spend 2 weeks between Madrid, Granada and Costa Del Sol in Oct. Can anyone tell me if there are any towns/places, must do, must see or any highlights that I should not miss? Thank you for the help.

  1. Skip the costa del Sol, and spend more time on the interior. How is your time distributed? My faves are: a couple of days of actual Madrid...you can find the must-sees online or in any travel guide. Check out the pastry shop in the Puerta del Sol for the best Trufas de chocolate in the area...possibly all Madrid. If you want a nice, inexpensive, locals restaurant, go to the Plaza de la Puerta Cerrada...little place called el Rey del Pimiento. Then a day each in Toledo and Segovia. Check their sites for the must-sees. There are so many choices for your personal tastes. Granada: Well, you must see the Alhambra...you knew that, I'm sure...buy your tickets online, so you can skip the bulk of a two to three hour wait in the sun! Flamenco shows there are pretty neat..you go into the gypsy caves! Keep your feet under you, or you could lose a toe! Go up to the Plaza de San Nicolás for the best view of the Alhambra from the Albaicín, then walk down the winding streets back into town. In the afternoon, you can get really nice teas at the lower end of the neighborhood. Sunset photos from the lookout can be really spectacular! A day or two or five in Ronda can be fun, too! Just curious...why not Seville? Cádiz is good for a seaside town, too, or Jerez de la Frontera...go to the sherry bodegas, and tour...taste...see how they make it.
  2. My favorite place was la Alhambra in Granada! Absolutely beautiful!! The gardens there are exquisite!
  3. Madrid - if you like art, three well known museums - the Prado, Sophia, and Thyssen are within walking distance of each other. With no difficulty you will find pastry shops. Maoz is a small place to get a falafel with many toppings. Granada - as someone has already mentioned, Alhambra and the Plaza de San Nicolas offer spectacular views and much more. Seville - has the amazing Cathedral and within an eye's glance you might see trees with purple flowers and orange trees as you walk around the city. Ronda - people who get to spend a day or two in this town typically are glad they did. General tips: wear shoes with thick soles, or even hiking boots, for your outdoor walks. Many of the surfaces are made of stones that can start to be felt through thin soles after a while. If you don't know Spanish, learn some words and phrases. There are some sites online that have audio pronunciation. This effort will pay off.
