Thinking about buying Cadillac Seville 1997 looks with no flaws $3950, is it a good deal?

I need a reliable car. Is Cadillac Seville a good choice?

  1. The '97-99 northstar (y vin code) ALL had issues with the head gaskets. I had a '98 and it made it to 103k miles before the problem manifested, and I was told I was lucky. It is a major deal, about $3,000.00 to fix and I could not find anyone except the Cadillac dealer who would do the job. They have to use a jig to drill and tap all 23 head bolt holes in the block and install new head gaskets and head bolts. I would run, not walk away from this one. Also it is a bit expensive (worth about $2,500.00-$3,000.00) unless that is at a finance lot. If you like GM you might look at a Le Sabre or Park Avenue. Basically same chassis but with the 3800 V6, the intake manifold gasket fails on these but is only about $500 to fix. I have a 2000 Le Sabre in the stable with 178K miles, rattles a lot but still running. There are much better cars out there than GM's offerings of late, but they will last if taken care of (and if you can put up with the rattles and cheap plastic interior parts breaking off in your hand).
