mom wont let me return to granada, spain? My mom wants me to travel abroad again next summer, but she wont let me go back to the place i went this summer. (granada, spain) I understand that she wants me to explore new places and new cultures, but i fell in love with Granada and i was happier there than any other place I've ever been. (i want to live there when I'm older) I had a great experience there, learned a lot of Spanish, and don't see why its a problem if i choose Granada over other places in Spain. (she wants me to go to northern Spain, but there's so much more culture in Granada that i didn't get to see.) what do you think?

Places to visit in Spain!? In a few weeks, I'll be traveling to Spain with some classmates. We're going to Barcelona, Costa del Sol, Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Madrid and Toledo. What's the best place in Spain to study Arabic language and Islamic culture? I'm a college student in the U.S., majoring in near eastern languages and cultures (doing the arabic track), and I'd like to spend all of next year studying abroad in Spain. I'm looking to take classes on Arabic culture and language. I know the complu, and the Universidad de Sevilla and the Universidad de Granada all have departments (in addition to some others), but I'm hard pressed to find a program where I'm not prevented from enrolling in these classes as an extranjera. I know CIEE has its "advanced liberal arts" program in Sevilla that would allow me to do this, but are there any others? And is Sevilla a good city in which the influence of Islamic culture is evident? (I know Granada is...) And a fun place to be? (I know Madrid is...) This is a really longwinded question, but answers to any part of it would be appreciated. Thanks!
Is Spain a good place to travel with an infant? I am looking into traveling to Spain and in particular the South. I would like to head there before my baby boy turns two. He is 7 months right now. Going to Granada, Spain in November. Where should we stay? We are going to Granada in November for 5 days, and I'm not quite sure if we should stay in the Centre, or the Albaycin district. There are self catering apartments in both places for decent rates. Both areas appear to be basically next to each other, but I would like advice on the best area. Thanks!
Doing a project on Spain... Are these three sightseeing places good? Didn't really know how to phrase the question well, but I wanted to pick three sightseeing places that were the major ones in Spain rather than pick three that aren't that important or that people usually don't consider the major ones. What do you think of.... El Prado? Granada? Las Ventas Bullfighting? Is there something major that I CANNOT miss when talking about sightseeing of Spain? I'm guessing out of the three, you would probably say Las Ventas Bullfighting isn't as important... But anyway, thanks in advance for your help! I really appreciate it!
Best Place to live in Spain, (Andalucia) ? I have lived in Spain a year or so ago but I lived in Barcelona and Tenerife, then i had to come back to the UK originally for a family emegency and ended up staying a while... I now have plans to go back to Spain, and was thinking of heading back to Andalucía mainly due to the selection of places, Malaga, Marbella, Granada, Seville, Gibraltar, not to mention place along the Costa del Sol... What is everyones opinions on the best place to go?... taking into consideration, the most important factors would be quality of life (places to go out, and enjoy) and opportunity of work. I speak fluent spanish so that would not be a problem.......
Where in Spain should I go to study abroad this summer? I have a few program choices (4 to be exact: AIFS, SPI, SummerAbroad, Explorica Summer Academy) although they all take place in different parts of Spain and I can't decide where I want to go. I wanted to go to Barcelona & San Sebastion the most. However, I heard San Sebastion more quiet and suburban? I want to go to a city-ish place, with exciting nightlife..clubs bars and such. I am a party girl. So Barcelona, right? The only drawback is its not by the beach, like San Sebastion. My other options of places to stay in Spain are: Granada (with the AIFS program), Salamanca (AIFS) which i heard is pretty fun since it is a big college area, Marbella (Explorica Summer Academy), Santander (SPI), & Cadiz (SPI). Oh, and what is the drinking age/smoking age/clubbing age/going to a bar in Spain? Is it 18? Because a bunch of my friends went to barca, spain over the summer, and they all went clubbing + got wasted pretty much every night, and they're 17?

My question is, which of the following cities would be a fun place for me to be? -Barcelona -Granada -Salamanca -Madrid -Sevilla -Valencia If anyone from Spain, or who has alot of experience with this country can help me out.... Travelling to south of Spain - Do you have any recommendations? Hello - I am traveling to Andalusia province this August and would appreciate ideas of where to go and good places to stay. I am traveling on my own and traveling light. I don't need anything fancy, but access to a shower and a place to get good local food would be good :-) I am currently planning on spending a couple of days in Malaga, then going up to Granada for a week. The plan was then to go to Nerja for 6 nights, then 3 more nights in Malaga, but instead I think I would like to go to the mountains and stay a coupe of nights at a few other places along the A348. Your suggestions will be most welcome :-) hugs san

Where should I study abroad in Spain? I'm planning on studying abroad in Spain in the spring and am having some trouble deciding which city I want to go to. Currently I am debating between Salamanca and Barcelona, though I am also considering Madrid, Granada, and Seville. The two things that I most want to accomplish on this trip are becoming fluent in Spanish and meeting locals/other Europeans. I'm worried about going to Barcelona because Catalan is the official language. Would this get in the way of learning Spanish? Would it be difficult and confusing to learn Spanish while so many people are speaking Catalan? Do students at the Universities speak more in Castilian or Catalan? I'm also worried that I won't meet many local students (or even international European students) or will be too shy to confront them in Spanish, and will end up only making friends with other Americans participating in the same program as me--but the experience just wouldn't be the same! Because Salamanca is such a University town I think I would have a better chance of meeting young Spanish students and have more opportunities to make friends. I've also heard that Salamanca is the place to go if you want to learn spanish. Not to mention, La Universidad de Salamanca is the oldest university in Spain! I also cannot decide if I would prefer to stay in a big city like Madrid or Barcelona, or a smaller, more chill place like Salamanca or Granada. I will probably go out some at night, but chances are I'm not going to be incredibly into the party scene at the larger cities. I don't know if the crazy night life would be too hectic for me, make it difficult to sleep etc. Also, would it be more difficult to adjust to living in a different country if I were to go to a large city full of million other people, as opposed to staying somewhere less populated, like Salamanca? On the other hand, living in a big city sounds really excited, and there would be so much to do and see. Barcelona sounds beautiful, and I really want to see that amazing architecture! I also considered Seville as an alternative to Madrid or Barcelona if I decided I wanted to stay in a large city not quite so large as those two. Living in Granada appealed to me because I've heard it's suppose to be beautiful, and the Moorish influences seemed fascinating. How friendly are Spaniards? Are some places more welcoming of foreigners than others? What are the chances that a local student would introduce themself to me?
Was Spain the Jewel of Europe when Muslims ruled it for 800 years ? Stanley Lane-Poole in ‘The Moors in Spain’: Introduction. "For nearly eight centuries, under the Mohamedan rule, Spain set all Europe a shining example of a civilized and enlightened state. Her fertile provinces rendered doubly prolific, by the industrious engineering skill of the conquerors bore fruit a hundredfold, cities innumerable sprang up in the rich valleys in the Guadalquivir and the Guadiana whose names, and names only commemorate the vanished glories of their past. "...To Cordoba belong all the beauty and ornaments that delight the eye or dazzle the sight. Her long line of Sultans form her crown of glory; her necklace is strung with the pearls which her poets have gathered from the ocean of language; her dress is of the banners of learning, well-knit together by her men of science; and the masters of every art and industry are the hem of her garments. "Art, literature and science prospered as they then prospered nowhere else in Europe... "Mathematics, astronomy, botany, history, philosophy and jurisprudence were to be mastered in Spain, and Spain alone. Whatever makes a kingdom great and prosperous, whatever tends to refinement and civilization, was found in Muslim Spain... "With Granada fell all Spain's greatness. For a brief while, indeed, the reflection of the Moorish splendour cast a borrowed light upon the history of the land which it had once warmed with its sunny radiance. The great epoch of Isabella, Charles V and Philip II, of Columbus, Cortes and Pizarro, shed a last halo about the dying monuments of a mighty state. When followed the abomination of dissolution, the rule of inquisition and the blackness of darkness in which Spain has been plunged ever since. "In the land where science was once supreme, the Spanish doctors became noted for nothing but their ignorance and incapacity. The arts of Toledo and Almeria faded into insignificance. "The land deprived of skillful irrigation of the Moors, grew improvished and neglected, the richest and most fertile valleys languished and were deserted, and most of the populous cities which had filled every district in Andalusia, fell into ruinous decay; and beggars, friars, and bandits took the place of scholars, merchants and knights. So low fell Spain when she had driven away the Moors. Such is the melancholy contrast offered by her history."
If you could be anywhere in the world right now....where would you be? Favourite place you've been...or where you've always dreamed of going. Recently I heard of a place near Granada in the South of Spain. A lake, at a certain time of year the entire surface of the lake is covered in the colours of the rainbow...if you take a stone and throw it into the lake all the colours will fly up and then slowly settle back down again. How is this possible...dragonflies...millions and millions of them laying their eggs. The colours coming from the iridescence of their wings. That, if it exists, and I hear it does, that, I will have to see. Thanks, ... Dubai...why? Have you been there? What's so great about it? Thanks Suzie, that sounds beautiful. Think I'l have to see that.

Spain/Greece trip help and advice please!? Hi, This summer my dad, sister (14), and I (16) are going on a 3 week trip to Greece and Spain. I just need some help on stuff that we can do while we're there. Spain: Madrid Toledo Cordoba Seville Granada Rhonda How long should we stay in each place and what are some activities? We have a minimum of 2 days to stay in each place and we want to make our trip as eventful as possible. We'll be backpacking so hotels are not a big concern right now. Greece: Athens- 2 days Santorini- 4 days What are some things we should see and do, ecspecially in Santorini? I speak 3 years of spanish so I'm sure communicating won't be too hard. Is it very affordable in Greece and is bargaining prominent in Spain and Greece? We are vegetarians so would it be hard to find food around Spain and Greece? Anything else we should know while we're there? Thank you so much! Sharada
Portugal vs. Spain in November? Which is the better place to visit? Hi, My boyfriend and I wil be travelling to either Spain or Portugal for @ 9 days in November (7th-16th). Trying to decide between Spain or Portugal. If we do Spain, we were thinking about flying into Madrid, spending a couple days there and then head down to Sevilla and hit up the surrounding towns as well... Ronda, Cordoba, Granada, etc. I am also now considering Portugal as an alternative. Any recommendations between the two countries? We live in New York City, so we live the city lifestyle and would actually prefer to see more of the small villages, get in with the locals, etc. We also understand the weather may not be fantasic, but that is sort of the trade off for getting to go during the non-touristy time of year. Any adivice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Flamenco dancing in Spain? I'll be visiting Andalucia in a couple of weeks, and I would like to know some places (tablaos is what they're called I think) where I can see original flamenco dancing. I would'nt prefer the touristic ones. I found out about the Sacromonte caves in Granada, but there are only prepaid touristic guides who pick you up from your hotel. How can I get there? Is it near the Alahmbra? Any information about Malaga, Ronda, Seville, Cordoba and Granada would be very useful. Thank you in advance.

My return flight from Paris to my home country is on 26th Nov. I was thinking of flying from Marrakesh to Paris on the 25th or 26th to catch my return flight. Could anyone who's been to these countries suggest an itinerary which will let me cover all the places I'd like to visit? The must-sees are Barcelona, Madrid, Segovia, Toledo, Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Lisbon, Fez, Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakesh. How many days should I spend at each town/city? I'd be doing a ferry crossing from Algeciras, Spain to Tangier, Morocco. Between Barcelona, should I stop over at Zaragoza or Valencia? Also, are Gibraltar as well as Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol worth visiting too? What about Salamanca? Thanks a lot!!
Should I study away to Oaxaca, Mexico, or Granda, Spain? I am studying away for the semester next near at a university in either of these cities. I have looked up a few of the attraction of each city and it's very hard for me to choose which one I want to live and study in next year. I especially like the program offered in Oaxaca because they are focused more on learning about social issues and social change, however in Granada, the program is based more on learning the language and history of Spain, and that appeals to me because one of the major reasons I am studying away is to learn Spanish! So if any of you know anything about these places that I don't, feel free to comment! Help me decide!!! I am leaning toward Oaxaca, but I can't be too sure!!
